Edward James Olmos to receive the 2023 RNCI Lifetime Achievement Award

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, November 10th, 2023 – Edward James Olmos will receive the RNCI Life Achievement Award at the upcoming 2023 RNCI Red Nation Awards ceremony.

Olmos is the 5th recipient of the Red Nation Celebration Institute’s highest honor that has previously been bestowed on the likes of Wes Studi, Graham Greene, John Trudell, Russell Means.

“Edward is an incredible actor whose soul and spirit captivates your attention in any character he portrays,” says Joanelle Romero, RNCI founder, president, and CEO. “Olmos has an enduring career that is incredibly rich and layered. Edward is a star with a heart of gold that shines through in everything he does.”

Given annually to an actor who fosters the “finest ideals of the acting profession,” Olmos has been an acclaimed performer for over six plus decades. Among his accolades Oscar Nomination for “Stand & Deliver”, Golden Globe Award “Stand & Deliver” and “Miami Vice” and “The Burning Season”, Independent Spirit Award “Stand & Deliver”, Primetime Emmy Award “Miami Vice”, Alma Award “Selena”, “Battlestar Galactica”, and the prestigious Mary Pickford Award for himself.

Olmos is also known for his roles as folk hero Gregorio Cortez in The Ballard of Gregorio Cortez, patriarch Abraham Quintanilla in the film Selena, narrator El Pachuco in both the stage and film versions of Zoot Suit, and the Voice of Chicharron in Coco.

Olmos first film as director was 1992 American Me an independent crime drama, which he also produced.

Over the course of his career, Olmos has been a pioneer for more diversified roles and wages of Indigenous Latinos in U.S. media.

RNCI Life Achievement Award is bestowed for outstanding achievement in fostering the best ideals of the acting profession. The recipient of this award is a well-established performer who has contributed to improving the image of the acting profession and has a history of active involvement in humanitarian and public service endeavors while amplifying the Native Indigenous Narrative.

The Red Nation Celebration Institute Lifetime Achievement Award is presented by the Red Nation Celebration Institute Board of Directors.

The 28th Annual RNCI Red Nation Awards ceremony will be broadcast live on Red Nation Television Network on Sunday, November 12 at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT from the Fine Arts Theatre in Beverly Hills CA.
